Aloha, I’m Mariah Ecker! My three unwavering loves are: food, being active outside, and the science behind how our bodies work. My interest in health led me to the medical field. Prior to becoming a Registered Dietitian, I was a medical assistant pursuing a degree in nursing in Northern California. During a nutrition course I fell in love with the intersection of food, agriculture, behavior, and health sciences. I pivoted paths and have never looked back!
My favorite part of being a Registered Dietitian is providing my patients with a peace of mind when it comes to their nutritional health. Life is stressful enough, and food should not be contributing to that! Nutrition information can be overwhelming; it’s no wonder so many of us either feel confused at where to start or pursue unmaintainable diets. I believe one of the largest barriers to making long lasting nutrition changes is high food stress! Any diet plan that increases your stress should be re-evaluated. Is this really contributing positively to your overall physical and mental health? Can you maintain this for the rest of your life?
With a background as a clinical dietitian working in both hospital and long term care/rehabilitation facilities, as well as a previous FoodCorps AmeriCorps member serving a California school district with nutrition education, I am experienced with nutrition across the lifespan and providing personalized nutrition counseling for an array of complex health conditions.
